What is NFC?

NFC means Near Field Communication. It lets your phone read the tiny, battery-free chip inside your MixTape when you hold the phone close to it.

THE 10-SECOND CHECK
  1. 01Can your phone make tap-to-pay payments? If yes, it normally has NFC.
  2. 02Search your phone Settings for “NFC” or “Contactless payments”.
  3. 03Unlock your phone, switch NFC on where required, and tap the MixTape near the phone’s NFC reader.

Tap-to-pay is a useful clue, but the Android test app gives you a clearer check.

ANDROID

Check & scan

  1. Open Settings and search for NFC.

  2. Unlock the iPhone and keep the screen awake.
  3. Hold the top edge of the iPhone close to the MixTape.
  4. Wait for the notification, then tap it to open your mix.

QUICK FIXES

NFC FAQ

Why is my MixTape taking longer to scan?+

A very low battery, battery-saving mode, a locked screen or moving the phone too quickly can delay the response. Charge and unlock the phone, then hold it still for a few seconds.

Where is the NFC reader on my phone?+

On iPhone, start near the top edge. On Android, it is usually on the back near the top or centre. Move the phone slowly until it responds.

Does my phone need to be unlocked?+

Usually yes. Keep the screen awake and the phone unlocked so the link can appear and open safely.

Can a phone cover block the tap?+

Most thin covers work. Thick, metal, magnetic or card-holding covers can weaken or block the NFC signal—remove the cover and try again.

What if my phone does not have NFC?+

Use the MixTape QR option where supplied, or scan it with another NFC-capable phone. Android users can also run the test app above.

Does the MixTape chip need charging?+

No. The NFC chip inside the MixTape is passive and battery-free; your phone provides the tiny amount of energy needed to read it.
